“BUILDING UP…REACHING OUT” – UPDATE - MARCH 2009
February was a very exciting month! After months of preparation, finalizing designs and specifications and checking them twice, the contracts were let for bids. The Construction Manager and Architect asked the contractors for their base bid, plus three different alternates, knowing that there was a limited amount available for construction. On February 19 the bids were received and evaluated. The base bids, plus the three alternates, came very close to the pledges received in November, 2008. Council was given the opportunity to choose the alternates they felt were feasible. On February 28, the Council decided to proceed with completing the second floor– understanding that the Capital Campaign Team will look for more resources to fill the small gap. It is truly amazing how faithful God is, if we but trust him with the resources He has given to us.
March 2 – mark it on your calendar – was the starting date for construction. As most of you have already seen, a lot of work has already been accomplished. To give you a snap shot of what the construction schedule might look like, here are some key milestones:
Demolition and Start the ELEVATOR shaft – Early March Pour CONCRETE FLOOR – Second Floor – Mid March BUILD INTERIOR WALLS – Mid March to End of March DRYWALL on walls – Late March to Early April.
Looking ahead, we are planning completion of the project in mid-July. The next update will provide more of what will happen in April and May.
A special thanks to all those volunteers who have already helped with the work. January was targeted to move the administrative assistants, children and youth ministry staff, and Pastor Bruce, as well as develop new office space to house some of these ministry leaders. The entire (15,000 square feet) wood floor topping was removed by the end January. In early February the painting team got a head start on painting the fire protection piping. Another volunteer team came in the middle of February to place the cushion material on the second floor so that the contractor could pour a 3 inch concrete topping slab – thus leveling the floor and reducing the noise and heat loss between floors. To date there have been 699 hours volunteered for the project. There are still areas of work that need volunteers of all different levels of skills. See the sign-up sheets at the Building Renovation booth in Main Street or sign-up online here on the website. We look forward to seeing each of you become a part of Covenant Life Church’s history as together we take this next exciting step in our ministry. |
